On Saturday 26th October 2013, the eighth edition of the Vinos de la Cordillera tasting took place. The tasting is an initiative started by Mendocinean journalist Enrique Chrabolowsky who conceptualized this tasting as an unprecedented assessment of wines from both sides of the Andes.

Chrabolowsky choses the 12 Argentine wines to take part each year, and Mariana Martinez selects the 12 Chilean wines that go head to head with them in the blind tasting where more than 80 winemakers, agronomists, journalists and Latin American wine experts evaluate them.

However the tasting panel had 20% more chileans, the results were quite even.

92 points were obtained by 3 wines from argentina and one from chile; 91 points, 7 from chile and 5 from argentina; 90 points, 4 from argentina and 3 from chile, and 23 out of 24 wines obtained 90.

The annual event is held between Chile and Argentina alternate years, and this year – the eighth edition – it was held in Santiago, and hailed a success by both countries.

Within the rules of the tasting, the wines that score more than 90 points are given an award and are named after the final count. Those that don’t score 90 points are not named.

The jury vote by a computer linked through Wi-Fi and give a highest and lowest score for each wine. Each score has to be explained by the taster, which produces an interesting debate between the attendees.

These are the results:
